Portland Poker Rooms

Their Best Kept Secret

There is a secret that lurks inside Portland poker rooms and inside any other poker room in the country for that matter, and it is responsible for separating the winners from the losers. The secret is patience. Patience is the key to success in poker; it helps you win and earn money.

The best Texas Hold em players¾the pros¾know that the game requires patience. In fact, the main rule of poker says:

“If you play with big blinds you will lose your money,
but if you do not have patience you will be eliminated even faster.”

Professional poker players are extremely patient; impatient players only win because of luck. The really good players know that rises and falls are secondary in importance to patience. Poker players face rises and falls more often than stock exchange traders, and reward comes to the patient ones who can stay calm and collected.

It is not easy to learn all the rules and tricks of Texas Hold em poker. It may take you months or even years to become a pro, but you will see progress and start to win if you are coherent and use the right strategy.

You must be ready to face episodes of bad luck… it is not easy, but it is a part of the game. Don’t get upset if you lose for several hours, maybe you’re losing because you are not being patient!

There are 2 signs of an impatient game:

  1. Recurrent betting with weak cards

Even while playing only with good cards you can become impatient. You can give away a lot having worthless cards.

Let’s say you have pocket kings and you place a bet… Three players call… The flop shows an Ace and you raise again… Your opponents call and you begin to see that at least one of them might have another Ace and your kings are worthless…

Good poker players know that it is time to fold; impatient ones ignore the Ace and keep on betting believing that they have the best cards.

If you have Ace-King… don’t believe you have won, and if the flop gives you nothing. Don’t get mad, you will have another chance to win… be patient!

  1. Playing too many hands

After 6 to 8 hours of sitting you get tired, which causes lack of concentration, which impedes players from focusing on the situation, which makes them start losing hand by hand.

It is a lot easier to click “call” than to think about the consequences of this decision.

A tired player doesn’t want to fold, and starts playing almost every single hand. Follow this advice:

“Play Texas Hold em when you really want to do it and have enough energy to be focused.”

When a player starts to rely on luck it means he is not concentrated enough and doesn’t have enough patience… and this leads to failure.

As soon as you notice signs of fatigue, get up from the table, leave the poker club, and go home.
