Poker Clubs

The 10 Things You Should Look Out For

Poker clubs today are state-of-the-art facilities; they need to be to attract the demanding customer that the poker player has become. Every poker player is different, but there are some things that every one considers before choosing a room to play.

The following are 10 characteristics you should look for in poker clubs; when you find one that suits your needs regarding all 10, you have found your heaven!

  1. Smoking policy

Far gone are the days when a poker room had to be filled with smoke to be successful. Smoking is now banned from many casinos across the country; so, if to win you need a cigar in your mouth, find a poker club with a smoking section.

  1. Accessories

Nowadays, poker rooms must offer iPod docks, automated notification systems, cup holders, comfortable chairs, automatic shufflers, and anything else that will make your game slick and classy.

  1. Televisions

Every poker player has at some point placed a bet on sporting events, and it is safe to presume that they would like to follow the action of their bets while playing poker, and even if this is not the case, it is always nice to have a TV to watch when you’re out of a hand.

  1. Food and drinks

When you go to a place to spend 10 hours sitting and playing cards, at some point you’ve got to eat and drink. Not every poker club allows you to eat at the table, but it would be great to find one that does.

  1. Staff

No matter what kind of hand you get, you want your poker room experience to be enjoyable, and you can get a very good idea of the kind of service you will receive in the way the club’s host greets you.

A good floor manager will quickly fill open spots at each table, and the dealers’ professionalism and personality can make or break the whole thing.

Ask people you know which clubs have the best dealers and most helpful floor staff. This will make your night!

  1. Game variety

This may not apply to you if you are strictly a Hold'em player, because almost every room that exists will fit your needs. However, if you prefer to move around and play Omaha, Stud, or even Razz, ensure you find a poker club that offers a good selection of games.

  1. Number of tables

In case you didn’t know, poker is very popular today; so, even rooms with 100 tables get packed on certain days and times of the week. Don’t expect to arrive at a 10-table club on a Friday night and get lucky enough to find a seat for the night.

  1. The rake

Poker clubs are a business; these are established to make money. The rake is a percentage fee¾normally 5%, but it can vary throughout the day¾that is taken out of the pots at each table.

You can win more and lose less if you are attentive to the type of rake you’re charged.

  1. Available limits

If you don’t feel comfortable at tables that only offer $2/4, look for a club that offers more than a couple low limit tables. Never get caught at a table with limits that far exceed your bankroll, or you could turn out to be the night’s biggest loser.

  1. Play level

You must know, in advance, the kind of player that visits the poker club of your choice. Do some research, because you don’t want to be at the wrong end of this equation, where the experts look for the “fish” to clean them out.
